Today is my Birthday, as a student in the boarding birthdays were considered Taboo, one did not disclose ones birthday for fear of ending up with a “sore ass”The reason being you were wished all day long by groups of friends warm of heart and quick on the boot .The following tradition of giving “birthday bumps” and mild and not so mild hoofs to the rear accompanied with the carouse of counts one-two. Three etc, the consolation was you got warm hand shakes and genuine hugs from buddies wishing you for your birthday. Today when I reflect back and reminiscence on those birthdays I become all nostalgic .”sore ass”
