We judge the lack of moisture in the summer months to be a contributing cause of forest fires. Since summer in the “Abode of Gods” is only just starting, the recent surge of fires in the Achalgarh zone is questionable. On 22 March 2022 there was a fire in Achalgarh, and last night (23 March 2022 at around 6 pm and lasted until about 2 am), three fires broke out almost simultaneously. One was adjacent to the Achalgarh temple area, another was behind the Safari cottages, and the third one was near Veer Baba.
Officials accuse visitors and locals of irresponsibly tossing lit bidis or cigarettes over dry grass, sparking fires. Some think that they deliberately set jungle fires as revenge for the ban on collecting wood.
Mount Abu has had several forest fire breakouts throughout the years. Forest firefighting is dangerous and agencies lack resources to handle enormous fires. This is one of the most terrifying trials a guy has ever encountered.
There has been an upsurge in forest fire incidences in recent years, which is a reason for concern for everyone. Forest fires have wreaked havoc on various parts of Mount Abu's dwindling forest every year. The significant damage caused by these fires is the destruction of rare plants located in woodlands. They endanger the lives of animals and birds that live in the forest.
Forest Department officials believe they are short on workforce and equipment to deal with the situation. Even in regions where they have taken action, regular measures such as building fire lines and dealing with forest fires are insufficient. I hope the spate of fires that have cropped up won’t be a harbinger of an evil wind wafting through this hill station.

Super Full Moon on the 21 January 2019

It fully prepared me to photograph the Super Full Moon on January 21, 2019. I intended to photograph the moon from my rooftop since it provided a great perspective on the horizon. From the rooftop, I witnessed the clouds gathering and the temperature dropping. With the rain beginning to fall, I had to run for shelter. I will have to take a picture of the Full Moon on the 22nd, it seems.
At around 9 pm, I walked my dogs out and low and behold Chanda Mama, peeked out from behind the cloud cover. Smiled at me and said cheer up ole man, take up your camera and light up my world from the Abode of the Gods.
I wasted no time. I immediately rushed and got my gun and managed a few fast shots at the smiling moon. The Wolf moon then faded behind a heavy blanket of cloud cover.
Later in the night, we had a pretty heavy shower, much needed for refreshing the arid hillsides.
Photographers were also busy recording the Luna eclipse that was taking place. Does anyone recall the bearded Ching-Chong man on the moon while they were kids? It had me thinking here was all humanity busy clicking the eclipse of the moon and posting it on shared media. How was our man doing ?? He must have been busy shooting the Solar eclipse, which presented itself to him. The Chinese, with their high-tech equipment, could have covered the Solar eclipse. Unfortunately, they were on the dark side of the moon. The Solar eclipse from there must have been spectacular.
Cheers All My first Howl to you
ARAWOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooo!

Monsoon update [ 11 August 2018 ] Mount Abu.

Rain-bearing clouds have disappointed the Abode of the Gods.

The heavy monsoon predicted by the met department for our region has gone up in a vapour. Our streams are a trickle, our lake and reservoir desperately need a filling or next year Abuites are gonna face water rationing on a larger scale.
The local Abuites and the Abu municipality have deemed it fit to have a “HAVAN” to appease the rain gods. Hopefully, it will rain for a few days at the end of the month and the beginning of September. Reports from Skymet are not too promising. Let’s watch and wait, man, proposes, but it’s nature that disposes of it.
