GREETINGS ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2015

GREETINGS ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY!

From the Abode of the Gods

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”- Mahatma Gandhi.

The Time to Give Back: Restoring Abu’s Green Heritage

More than half of the world’s forests have been destroyed because of humanity’s insatiable greed. Now, more than ever, it is time to curb this destruction and begin healing. Our environment needs a break, a chance to recover, and for this planet’s sake, we must act now to preserve what remains of our natural beauty.

Each year, individuals from diverse backgrounds in Mount Abu gather to plant trees across different locations in this beloved hill station. But planting is only the first step. What if the community took it upon themselves to care for these young saplings—especially during their crucial first three years? If every local were to nurture and water the trees in their immediate surroundings, Abu could reduce the number of trees lost to the scorching summer heat.

By undertaking this small yet meaningful initiative, we nurture a flourishing environment in Abu, leaving a rich, green legacy for future generations.

Update on Yesterday’s Incident

At around 7:30 a.m. this morning, a JCB showed up to remove the car that had fallen into the dried-up stream yesterday. The operation was rather crude but effective. I’ve captured a few pictures of the process, showcasing how the vehicle was hoisted out of the streambed. Look below.

My jaunt around Abu these last few days

The heat has been really oppressive this last fortnight and I could not make up my mind to brave the direct scorching heat of the summer sun. I did venture out after 6 pm. I wanted to see how the water holes were fairing this summer, the situation is grim , all water bodies that serve as watering spots for the animals have run bone dry ,there is just enough water in one or two spots to last for may be another 10 days. The pictures I’m posting will give you an idea of what the bleak future for the wild animals will be in another few weeks if the monsoons are delayed.

The water level at the Trevor Tank in the heart of the sanctuary is only 50%

Mount Abu heading for a HOT and DRY summer

A fiery Sky is it an omen of things to come

Looks like the end of our winter

Yesterday was an extremely hot day; the hottest we have faced so far this year. Looks like winter has departed and we now have to prepare for the summer. This summer is going to be a challenge for us Abuites as we have to survive on a dwindling supply of water. At the moment we are supplied water after every three days, I believe this can be extended to a supply after four days depending on our resources.

This year even before the advent of the summer Abu’s atmosphere is full of small flying insects (gnats/fruit flies) , these normally herald the oncoming of summer, this year they have come in hordes a month well in advance . I’ve never seen so many moths plague Abu as of these last few days. What do these signs signify?? Global Warming? Or something more ominous?
