The current world record for the half marathon is 58:23 minutes for men, set by Eritrea's Zersenay Tadese on 21 March 2010 at the Lisbon Half Marathon, and 64:51 minutes for women, set by Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya at the Valencia Half Marathon on 22 October 2017.

It hasn’t rained in Mount Abu for some time now. Yesterday we had a little rain accompanied by thunder. There seems to be a buildup of cloud cover and the Met Department predicts that there is an 80% chance of it raining on the 19 Aug 18. I hope it won’t be a gloomy, wet run. I believe around 1800 participants will be present for the challenge. The run from Abu Road to Mount Abu via Tiger Path is indeed a gruelling one. Only hope the weather holds long enough for those taking part to complete the race without the additional downpour if it occurs.

When the monsoon skips the Abode of the Gods, hope rises with smoke and prayer—will the skies listen?

Mount Abu waits under a restless sky. The heavy monsoon rains promised by the Met Department have dissolved into nothing but haze. Dry winds sweep across the hills, our streams whisper, and Nakki Lake stares back with a cracked, thirsty gaze. Reservoirs stand low, and if the heavens don’t open soon, Abuites may face a grim year of severe water rationing.

 Anxious and hopeful, the locals and the Abu Municipality have turned to tradition, lighting a Havan to call upon the rain gods. Smoke spirals upward as prayers rise with it, seeking mercy from the skies. Yet Skymet’s forecast remains bleak. For now, all we can do is wait, watch, and hope that the closing days of August or early September will drench this sacred hill with life-giving rain.

 Nature’s unpredictability has become the new normal, a warning etched into dry riverbeds and shrinking lakes. Mount Abu’s struggle is part of a larger story—one where climate change affects everyone. Perhaps this is the time to pair prayer with action: to value every drop, protect our forests, and treat our fragile hills with care. Only then can we hope that when the rains return, the land is ready to nurture and care for itself.

Folktale has it that crows congregate and decide another species' capital fate. 

Many view the manifestation of crows as an omen. Well, the 2019 elections are around the corner. Will the coming elections be associated with "Aacha Din", especially in the state of the Rajputs, or will there be an upheaval that may be turbulent and detrimental to the stigmata of our state of being called ‘lychgate’? 

I'm sure there is trepidation about what the results of the coming elections are about bringing forth. I'm no soothsayer but I take it Bharat our nation will rise to the occasion and the folks will rejoice and see AACHA DIN.

The upcoming Half Marathon from Brahma Kumaris Shantivan Abu road to Brahma Kumaris Om Shanti Bhavan is now an annual event. It's a gruelling event as the participants have to run all the way up the hill from the plains to a height of 4000 feet. Runners from all parts of the globe take part. We are rooting for Sunil Lobaniya, a local marathon runner who has won the prize before. Looking forward to this event in another 13 days.

Bear on the rampage Mount Abu

Bear on the Rampage in Mount Abu: Another Mauling Incident at Achalgarh.

Mount Abu, known for its tranquil surroundings and natural beauty, has witnessed alarming bear attacks. Just two hours ago, another individual fell victim to a bear mauling in the Achalgarh area, marking yet another incident in what seems to be a growing concern for residents and visitors alike.

Charles, who sent me the footage via WhatsApp, informed me of the attack, giving a firsthand glimpse into the seriousness of the situation. In response to the attack, the State Hospital dispatched an ambulance to the scene to provide immediate medical help to the injured person.

This latest incident adds to the increasing number of bear encounters in Mount Abu, raising concerns about wildlife safety and human interaction in the region. As the situation develops, locals must exercise caution in areas near forested zones where bear activity has been recorded.
