St. Patrick’s Day at St. Mary’s School
17th March
St. Patrick’s Day, celebrated on 17th March, is a national holiday in Ireland. The significance of the day at St. Mary's School is notably unique and deeply valued, owing to its institutional traditions.
For many years, this occasion has been synonymous with the much-anticipated Jungle Warfare Game—an event that has become a defining experience for generations of Marian students. The mere mention of “St. Paddy’s Day” evokes a sense of nostalgia among alumni, who recall the excitement, teamwork, and spirit of adventure that characterised this annual activity.
This year, the school introduced a refreshing change to the tradition. This year, the school introduced a refreshing change to the tradition. The senior dormitory boys undertook a midnight trek to Guru Shikhar, the highest peak in the Aravalli range, in place of the customary jungle warfare exercise.
120 boys took part in the trek, while 45 chose not to join. Embarking on a challenging yet memorable journey under the night sky, the group set out at 2:00 a.m. Fostering a strong sense of camaraderie and shared experience, the trek tested their endurance and resilience. The boys returned to the school campus by 11:00 a.m., in time for lunch, bringing with them stories and memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Although different from the traditional celebrations, this year’s activity upheld the core values associated with St. Patrick’s Day at St. Mary’s—adventure, unity, and school spirit.
The school extends its best wishes to all students, staff, and alumni on this special occasion.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day.
