Monsoons in the Abode Extreme and variable Mount Abu.

Weather report Monsoons in Mount Abu 13 Sept 2018

Snaps in this post per Kind favour Ms Trina.

The Monsoons have been extreme and variable over the Abode of the gods since the year 2010. The dry spell that haunted Mount Abu prior to 2010 was over. All our water bodies, the lake, reservoirs and other small water bodies since have all overflowed.
Last year, torrents of sudden record-breaking rainfall devastated Abu. Mt. Abu: Received 141mm on 23rd July 773 on 24th July and 734mm on 25th July 1698mm in 3 days “On 23 July 2017” Mount Abu Recorded the highest-ever recorded rainfall in its history in the last 100 years.
The changing climate scenario, over the last decade, goes to show that there is an increase of weird and extreme monsoon seasons that pose catastrophic events of flooding or drought in an area not affected before.
In contrast to the last 8 years of recording plentiful rain, this season so far has been below average. The Nakki lake has still 31/2 feet to overflow. Our Lower Kodra dam our main water supplying dam needs another 20 feet of water to overflow.

20 Feet to GO.

It's doubtful if the rain gods change their favour and smile upon their Abode and shower some more rain to tide us over for the year of 2019. We Abuites will just have to resign to the fact that our water supply will continue every alternate day or if the need is every third day. The days are still cloudy but, the weather report has confirmed the retreat of the monsoons in our area.

Once again bear attack Mount Abu [ 9 Sept 2018 [

Army firing range bear attacked a local Abuite Mt Abu.

A screenshot was taken for the video per kind favour Harry

This morning, once again, another Local Abuite was attacked by a bear near the Army firing range. After yesterday's bear attack in my immediate neighbourhood, one would have thought folks would be more cautious. The day has been lousy, weather-wise misty and dreary with a slight drizzle off and on. The guy who was exposed must have suddenly chanced upon the bear, provoking the attack. In this area, the firing range is a haunt of bears during the monsoon season.
They will probably post shortly the video that is making its rounds of the treatment at the civil hospital via WhatsApp on the web.
Very fortunate for this individual, he could escape without too much damage to his face.

Just received this snap from Charles via WhatsApp.

Breaking News Bear on Rampage Mount Abu.

A bear attack near NeelKanth Temple area

Sloth Bear Mount Abu

Early morning 5:45 am all hell broke loose. From across the stream where we live we heard squealing of at least two dogs. My daughter and self-jumped out of bed and ran out shouting at the top of our voices SHOO, SHOO we thought the leopard had struck. There was also pandemonium a litter further down the road.
I had ventured out the gate with my spotlight to see if I could see spot anything but due to the dense foliage, I presumed the leopard had disappeared with his prey in the background.
Man, I was very fortunate as it was not the leopard as we had assumed but a mother bear and her cubs. If I had been the victim of her attack I would have been ripped up as my one arm crutch would have been of no avail in fending off the bear.
The bear probably attacked the dogs that were passing this way and then moved off in the direction of the Neelkant Temple where it attacked a woman ripping off her ear and mauling her on the arm. The bear then moved towards the All India Radio station where a man who was outside the gate was severely mauled in his leg. The victims are currently undergoing treatment in the Global Hospital.

A local Abuite is on his way to Baba Ramdev's shrine.

Today while I was out birding I saw a few guys on bicycles. This aroused my curiosity, and I flagged one of them and asked him where he was going. He introduced himself as Shanti Lal. He and 5 others from Delaware Mount Abu were travelling 460 km to attend the Ramdevra Fair and pay homage to the saint at Ramdev Temple in Rajasthan. The temple is located 13 km from Pokhran on the Jodhpur-Jaisalmer road. Aba Ramdev’s followers regard him as the incarnation of Lord Krishna, while Muslims venerate him as Ramshah Pir. His followers are from Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Millions of his followers take this annual pilgrimage from Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and other parts of India.
Ramdev Jayanti is a public holiday in the Indian state of Rajasthan. The major celebration of Ramdev Jayanti takes place at the temple dedicated to him.
